I owe my current peace of mind to these guys. I am grateful to them not only for fixing my car when another shop diagnosed “a completely failed engine”, but also for treating me with respect and returning all of my calls. We’ve taken our VW Passat and Jetta TDI to these guys for over 5 years. Originally, I picked them for routine maintenance based on the Car Talk files in which they had an exemplary record. Of course, all this time, I got spoiled by their professional manner and attentiveness, and didn’t realize how rare they are in mechanics circles, until we moved out of the area. When we moved, I reached out to them again when a new mechanic claimed that my TDI engine was “toast” and I needed to replace it. Darryl advised me what questions to ask of my new mechanic over a period of 3 weeks of almost daily calls. Exasperated with the lack of results and the nonsensical explanations from the new mechanic, I towed my car to Darryl. Turns out all this time, the other shop either did not know how to fix my car or more likely, they were trying to take me for a ride. (I tried towing my car to other shops, but no one wanted to work on replacing a TDI engine. One guy lectured me on oil changes. Another called me “darhling”. I got treated as some kind of female idiot who drove her car into the ground and didn’t do the appropriate maintenance.) When Darryl got the car, he and his team diagnosed it within 48 hours. It was the same diagnosis my dad mentioned nearly a month before, as the car was seizing on the side of the road. (this had been dismissed by the new mechanic as not possible, since he had heard all these other noises, and forgotten by me, amid the frustration and indignation) Within a week of having my car at Precision, my car was in perfect running condition, and the engine was fine. If it was not for Darryl, his hard work and advice, I might not have a car today, but several thousand dollars worth of unnecessary work, and an engine I do not need. I don’t know what I am going to do to find a good mechanic closer to where I live, but for the time being I will continue to go to Precision, where they know how to diagnose and fix a car just like my dad would!
